Once you have instructions on how to reach your regular dentist, he or she will instruct you on what to do based on the emergency that you're having.

If you have swelling or fever, you should head straight to the hospital. If you are calling after hours, or need an emergency dentist after hours and don't have a regular dentist, you should look for a 24-hour dentist. These are hard to come by, but sometimes even a new dentist will come in to see a patient. These visits can be very costly, so it's best to prevent dental emergencies.
