3 Little Unknown Benefits of Receiving a Dental Implant

Hi, I'm Dr. Herzog From Implant Center Of Miami, and I'm here to teach you the three little unknown benefits of receiving a dental implant.

Benefit No. 1- Bone preservation

So just quickly, the first benefit from receiving a dental implant is bone preservation. When you're missing a tooth, basically you're not using the bone and if you've ever heard the term, if you don't use it, you lose it, it's the same with your jaw. When you don't have a tooth or a dental implant in that position, your jaw gets narrow and shorter, giving you wrinkles and a saggy face, and also creating a defect in the bone. By placing a dental implant, you can preserve that bone.

Benefit No. 2- More than one option

The second little unknown benefit of receiving a dental implant is actually that you have multiple options. So some people think that if they're missing every tooth in their mouth, they need 32 implants times $4,000 or $5,000. That is the average cost in Florida, will be $100,000 let's say. Well, there are multiple options, so I'm here just to show you. This is called an implant overdenture, and this patient has two implants, and a denture that snaps into place. So two implants actually gives that patient somewhat of a benefit.

In this option, this is an example of a fixed, or all on four type of restoration. This is made out of zirconia. And this patient has five implants restoring all their teeth, and it doesn't come out. So you can see that there are multiple options. In this example here, you have two implants supporting three teeth. So it's a bridge, just like you would have on your normal teeth, but it's actually over implants. So you have multiple options, and it's best to see your implant provider to see what the options are for you.

No. 3- Value for a lifetime

And the third little unknown benefit of receiving a dental implant is the lifetime value. So if you have a failing bridge, which is very common, or a broken tooth, and you decide, well, I have one broken molar, I'm going to get a traditional bridge over the top of the two teeth to replace that one tooth, what happens is, the bridge has about a five to 15 year lifespan, and then it takes those two teeth with it. So instead of having a one tooth problem, you now have a three tooth problem, becoming much more expensive. Where you could have just replaced the one tooth with a dental implant, and had it for your life.

I hope this article helped you, and you learned about the lifetime benefits of having a dental implant.
