Revolutionizing Dental Restoration: Dr. Eve Libby's Approach at Implant Center Miami

Hello, I'm Dr. Eve Libby at the Implant Center of Miami, located in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida. Having specialized in implant and restorative dentistry since graduating from NYU College of Dentistry in 2014, I am passionate about using conservative approaches in dental treatments to preserve natural tooth structure while enhancing both durability and aesthetics.

In restorative dentistry, a traditional dental crown covers the entire tooth and is typically used when a tooth has had prior full coverage or a root canal. However, in my practice, I prefer to use the term "porcelain restoration" rather than just "crown" because every tooth may need a different approach. My goal is always to be as conservative as possible when preparing a tooth. This means I may opt for an onlay or inlay, which involves removing only the compromised areas of the tooth rather than the entire tooth structure.

For example, if a patient comes in with a large filling and a piece of the tooth has broken off, I might not cover the entire tooth with porcelain. Instead, I would only remove the weak portions that are likely to break further. This approach not only preserves strong, healthy tooth structure but also ensures that the tooth remains in the patient’s mouth for a longer period without breaking at the gum line.

The distinction between a veneer and an onlay or a crown is also important. A veneer is typically for aesthetic purposes and involves minimal tooth preparation, just changing the appearance. On the other hand, an onlay, which I might refer to as a porcelain restoration, is aimed at preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible while protecting the weak portions with porcelain.
